At my last fill up (gasoline) my predicted mileage went to 400 miles of range left. .. I drove home, about 25 miles and it was down to 396. The next time I started the car it was at 399, I drove around a bit today, and it started at 396 and went down, after about 5 miles to 395. When I started again it was at 396. I drove about 10 miles and it went down to 390.. I've now gone about 35 miles on the tank and the gas gauge still reads full... I know that often the gauge doesn't move until almost 2 gallons have been used from full, but ...

Is it the computer or the gas gauge (float?) that's the issue? ..

Next time I drive I'' poke the flap in the filler tube and see if that does anything..

IDEAS?

This is kind of a long shot, but how fresh is your battery? The reason I ask is that from reading on this forum through the years I have seen all sorts of weird seemingly unrelated electrical issues caused by a weak battery. I think what may happen is that as it gets weaker it shifts its power to core functions and less critical ones don't get the power they need.

It seems strong.. It starts the car just fine. No slow cranking. No indications that it's going bad.

UPDATE..

I drove the car several times with the gauge still reading full and the range in the 390 mile zone.. After driving about 75 miles the gas gauge finally started moving down, and the range dropping too. Last check was range about 350 miles...
I think all is well....

As a side note, IIRC the range on the very first tank of gas, way back in 2014, was shown at 400 too.. ..

What I'm thinking is that somehow both the computer reset, and the float got stuck at the top of the tank somehow, and the float, finally worked its way loose.... The road I was on had speed bumps every 1/10 of mile or so. I didn't take them fast, but maybe it jostled loose..

TLDR... It's all good again I think.

I have heard that the Techron with the most PEA in it (or any of the high PEA content fuel injection cleaners) will help clean the float hinges, or whatever they use to allow the float to move in our rides.

Not sure if this has ever been proven of not, but it does makes sense.

I mostly use Chevron. Once in while Costco, but only about 1 tank in 5 or 6. Interesting that it occurred after a fill at Costco. That wouldn't explain the sudden 400 mile range tho.... .. Hmmmm...

Thanx.. I'll take that into consideration.

This is by far the BEST injector cleaner of them all that's easily accessible at Amazon and Advanced auto carries it too. It has 2-3 times more PEA
